La Puerta de Toriles, one of the most important gates of the enclosure. After all, what would a bullring be without bulls? This access, usually located on the side opposite the alley, serves as the entrance and exit for the bulls, as well as for the teams of bullfighters and picadors. It is a fundamental element that guarantees the safe and efficient flow of animals and participants during the bullfighting event.
During the festejo, you will see whoever announces the bull having his sign at the side of the door, ready for the next majestic animal. As you enter you can see different spaces, both chiqueros, and corraletas, and in the back the cabestros in more spacious corraletas. If you have ever been to a apartado, you will know that the corrals have a second floor, from where, in safety, we can see the bulls parade and appreciate all their splendor.
The bulls do not usually spend too much time inside the corrals, in the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, they usually arrive a few days before the bullfight. In this way, the animal can rest from the trip and adapt to its surroundings.
In the corrals, you will often see Florencio Fernández, better known as Florito, El Mayoral de la plaza and veedor. He is in charge of supplying the cabestros for the season, who in turn will have the task of changing bulls when necessary. Either because the bull is not in good condition or because of a particular situation. In his role as veedor, Florito is in charge of identifying the quality of the bulls.
The stud farms want to parade their bulls through the corrals of Las Ventas, after being a prestigious bullring and the largest in Spain, who wouldn’t want to? On the other hand, those who visit the corrals are amazed to walk through the same corridors as their friends the bulls, large animals of 300 or 500kg.
We encourage you to visit the corrals during the winter season, or visit the section during the festival season to see the corrals up close.
